St. Onge was in Frankfort for the special session but after her affirmative vote supporting Gov. Bevin’s pension proposal, she announced that her recent marriage and out-of-state opportunities drove her decision.

It was a surprise to her legislative colleagues — and to her constituents.

St. Onge has been in the legislature since 2012, representing the 63rd district which takes in northeastern Boone County, northwestern Kenton County and Ft. Wright, Villa Hills, Crescent Springs and Ft. Mitchell.

Sources say St. Onge recently married a long-time friend, Jeff Meyer, with whom she had reconnected. He lives and works in Sacramento, California, and she’ll be joining him there.

“Thank you for your service (Diane St. Onge),” said Ft. Wright Mayor Dave Hatter on social media. “You’ve been a great friend to our district and to me personally. And it was great to have you as a resident in Fort Wright. I’ll miss you but wish you the very best of luck in your next chapter.”

Jon Park, director of constituent services for Gov. Bevin, said on Facebook: “Honored to call Diane Murray St Onge, the Lady from Ft. Wright, my friend! Thank you for representing the 63rd District well! Congratulations on your wedding! We will miss you, but wish you well in your next chapter!”

According to KRS, state legislative vacancies are filled by special election. It’s anticipated the spot will be added to the November ballot.
