Briefs: Pioneer Award to Salyers, Geisen Scheper to Interact board, Blake Morgan gets scholarship


Kenton County Fiscal Court recognized one of its 2019 Pioneer Award honorees, John Salyers, who was presented a proclamation for his lifelong community service and involvement.

John Salyers

Salyers served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and then for 16 years as a police officer for the City of Erlanger. He also served as the Field Representative and Military Affairs Coordinator for Congressman, and then U.S. Senator, Jim Bunning for 24 years.

He was the President of the Florence Rotary and District Governor for Rotary. He currently holds a national position with Rotary International, which entails traveling around the world to help end polio.

Salyers is a resident of Independence.

Established in 2017, the Kenton County Pioneer Award honors living residents of Kenton County who have a record of outstanding service to the community and exemplify the highest standards of personal integrity. The Pioneer Award honors those who demonstrate servant leadership combined with awareness of the needs of fellow residents.

Julie Geisen Scheper named to Interact for Health board

Julie Geisen Scheper has been named to the board of Interact for Health.

She is retired from a counseling career at Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Covington. A Thomas More University graduate, Julie has been a member of both the Covington Independent Public Schools and Kentucky state boards of education.

She currently serves on the board and mentors for Covington Partners, a nonprofit that helps Covington youth achieve success.

Julie’s experience with the school system will help with Interact for Health’s school-based health center work.

Blake Morgan

Dixie Heights grad gets Kentucky Peace Officers’ Association scholarship

The Kentucky Peace Officers’ Association would like to announce they have awarded a $500.00 scholarship to Erlanger resident Blake Morgan.

Morgan plans to attend the University of Kentucky in the fall and upon graduation follow in his father’s footsteps and go into law enforcement.

Morgan is the son of Pat and Shawnna Morgan of Erlanger.
