The board of United Way of Greater Cincinnati (UWGC) has elected Steven J. Shifman as Board Chair and Barbara A. Turner as Board Chair-Elect/Vice Chair, effective immediately.
Steven Shifman
Steven J. Shifman is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Michelman, a privately held global technology and manufacturing company. Shifman serves on the Executive Committee of the United Way of Greater Cincinnati and as Co-Chair of the Cincinnati Regional Business Committee. He formerly served as Board Chair of the Cincinnati Jewish Community Center and on the boards of Cincinnati Preschool Promise and Teach for America in Southwest Ohio.
“I am honored with this opportunity to take my involvement in our community to the next level. I am committed to helping United Way mobilize even more support to help achieve our goal of breaking the cycle of poverty and building a more prosperous and inclusive community,” said Shifman.
Barbara A. Turner is President and Chief Operating Officer of Ohio National Financial Services.
She currently serves on the boards of Advocates for Youth Education, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, Cincinnati Women’s Executive Forum, Go Red for Women Executive Leadership Team, Greater Cincinnati American Red Cross, and Women’s Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.
“I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to help lead the new strategic vision of United Way. I am looking forward to sharing my expertise and contributing to the well-being of our community at large,” said Turner.
The Board recognized Timothy A. Elsbrock, Regional President, Fifth Third Bank, for his outstanding leadership as the interim Board Chair, and for launching a full governance review to identify ways to strengthen governance to deliver even more impact for the community.
