Pickin’ Strings and Spinnin’ Tales; Jake Speed & The Freddies return to Music@BCM for July 11 show

Jake Speed, sometimes called the Woody Guthrie of Cincinnati, will be picking his acoustic guitar strings and telling stories at Behringer-Crawford Museum when he and his band, The Freddies, return to Music@BCM on Thursday, July 11.

Jake Speed & The Freddies play a mix of folk, country blues and ragtime tunes, many of which tell regionally-inspired, often tongue-in-cheek stories. Their music is often accompanied by crowd-pleasing antics, which makes them favorites with audiences of all ages.

The band includes Kentucky Graham on tenor guitar, Chris Gibson on fiddle, Justin Todhunter on mandolin, Chris Werner on upright bass, and Speed on guitar, harmonica, fiddle, kazoo and washboard. The group has recorded five albums, which have sold more than 6000 copies, and has won numerous music honors, including five Cincinnati Entertainment Awards for Best Folk Musicians.

Music@BCM concerts are held in Behringer-Crawford Museum’s outdoor amphitheater at 1600 Montague Road – Devou Park, Covington KY 41011.  Doors open at 6 p.m. with refreshments available for sale and the concert runs from 7 to 9 p.m.  Concert-goers are invited to bring folding chairs or blankets for seating.
