NKU hosts Camp Innovation for Gifted Students and CINSAM’s STEM summer programs — spots available

Northern Kentucky University once again offers its Camp Innovation Pathways to College Program for students in kindergarten through 9th grade this June. NKU’s Institute for Talent Development and Gifted Studies is accepting applications for the weekday program running from June 10-14.

Camp Innovation offers interdisciplinary courses that combine technology, science, mathematics, visual and performing arts, and social studies. Classes provide the opportunity for children to share interests with other students while enhancing their intellectual, academic and creative development.

Students can choose from 20 courses with a variety of interests, including Japanese Language Explorations to Harry Potter and Lego EV3 robotics. All attendees at this year’s program will participate in an interactive science presentation by the Kentucky Science Center.

CINSAM Presents STEM Summer Programs for Students

Northern Kentucky University’s Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics (CINSAM) invites students to immerse themselves in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education through its summer camps and academies.

CINSAM’s Ashland Summer Program is divided into two age groups, camps for kindergarten through eighth graders and summer academies for high school students. The programs run from June through July.

CINSAM collaborates with the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education and Human Services and the College of Informatics to cover a range of STEM subjects that are taught by NKU faculty and staff. This year’s lineup includes a robotics camps and studying at the Cincinnati Zoo. Academies offer students the chance to conduct experiments on brain behavior and dive into cybersecurity issues in the College of Informatics’ JRG Cybersecurity Lab.

“Our camps challenge students’ critical thinking skills and help them develop their passions in the STEM disciplines,” said Dr. Madhura Kulkarni, CINSAM Director. “We enjoy offering these programs for students to creatively explore STEM and are excited to get started this summer.”

Fees remain low thanks to Ashland’s sponsorship. Scholarships are available for students who meet the requirements for the “Free & Reduced Meal” programs in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana. Parents can apply for a scholarship on the registration form.
