The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 6 Office announced Wednesday that one of Northern Kentucky’s busiest sections of roadway will undergo a total pavement rehabilitation project.
Beginning at 8 p.m. this Thursday night, May 16, work will start on a three-mile section of Interstate 275 between Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) and Turfway Road (KY 717), just east of the Mineola Pike exit.
Several ramps linking to this corridor will also be included in the work.
To help drivers navigate this and other major construction areas, the Cabinet recently introduced DrivingNKYProgress.org, a new public information resource to help drivers learn more about major construction projects that are likely to impact travel in Northern Kentucky as construction gets underway.
“We encourage everyone to use technology to help them plan their drive,” said Bob Yeager, chief district engineer for KYTC District 6. “Travel apps, such as WAZE, can help drivers determine the fastest route to their destination.”
With more than a quarter of a billion dollars of regional infrastructure investment this year alone, all within a 15-mile radius, DrivingNKYProgress.org will help drivers navigate major construction areas.
The website provides multiple travel resources, including project information, traffic impacts, and feedback tools for public inquiries and comments.

Construction on I-275 will be completed in two phases, starting with eastbound lanes and ending with westbound lanes.
Eastbound I-275 from Turfway Road (KY 717), just east of the Mineola Pike exit, to Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) will be paved in 2019. Additionally, work will occur on the following ramps:
* I-275 eastbound to I-75 northbound/southbound
* I-275 eastbound exit to Dixie Highway
* I-75 northbound ramp to I-275 eastbound
Construction on the eastbound lanes will begin in May and continue through November.
Westbound I-275 from Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) to Turfway Road (KY 717), just east of the Mineola Pike exit, will be paved in 2020. In addition to the interstate, work will occur on the following ramps:
* I-275 westbound ramp to I-75 southbound
* I-275 westbound entrance from Dixie Highway
* I-75 southbound ramp to I-275 westbound
Construction on the westbound lanes is expected to begin in late spring/early summer 2020 and continue through the end of the year.
“We realize this is a bit of a good news/bad news scenario,” said Yeager. “In the long-term, we know that new pavement on this heavily-traveled section of I-275 will provide smoother and safer travel for all who drive this section of the interstate, and drivers will be pleased with these improvements. But we also realize that during construction, travel delays may be significant.”
Beginning this week, contractors will start placing signage throughout the project area alerting motorists to upcoming work, and crews will begin preparing for construction.
Contractors will remove deteriorated concrete from three lanes and shoulders and replace the entire section of roadway with new concrete.
Traffic will be reduced to two lanes within the project area for the duration of the work. Initially, traffic will be shifted to the outside lanes for several weeks while crews work on the inner travel lanes. As work progresses, traffic patterns will be shifted within the project area.
More than 120,000 vehicles use this section of I-275 daily, which connects to the I-71/75 interchange.
Eaton Asphalt of Walton was awarded the $31.3 million project.
The start date could be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
