Alix DeDreu collected three hits and four runs batted in as the Thomas More University softball team captured the American Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament championship with a 10-2 win over host Alfred State (N.Y.) on Sunday afternoon.

DeDreu also earned the win as she pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out six. In addition, she was named the most valuable player of the ACAA Tournament.

Kenzi Dickerson added a pair of hits and three RBI for Thomas More, which is 32-9 and ranked 16th nationally in the NCAA Division III poll. Whitney Quillen scored three times for the Saints, who plated five runs in the fifth inning to clinch the win.

Sydney Turner was 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs for Thomas More, which finished with a 13-3 advantage in hits. The Saints also extended their winning streak to seven.

Quillen and Dickerson joined DeDreu on the ACAA All-Tournament team. Thomas More’s Morgan Wells was also named to the ACAA All-Tournament team. Alfred State finished the season with a 9-18 record.

It marked the third straight conference title for Thomas More, which won the previous two championships in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference before leaving that conference after last season. Thomas More has won eight conference titles since 2007, including seven titles under 11th-year head coach Lindsay Eagan.

The ACAA does not receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, and Thomas More must earn an at-large berth to the postseason event. The NCAA will announce the tournament field and the brackets on Monday.

This is Thomas More’s final season of competition at the NCAA Division III level. Next year, the Saints will transition to the NAIA and compete in the Mid-South Conference.
