May 2019 has been proclaimed the first National Stop the Bleed Month, with May 23 marking the second annual Stop the Bleed Day.
The number one cause of preventable death from a traumatic event is uncontrolled bleeding. Traumatic events can include active shooter situations, as well as car crashes and other types of accidents.
The Stop the Bleed campaign highlights the importance of training the general public on techniques to stop life-threatening bleeding during a traumatic event.
The more people there are who know how to control bleeding in an injured person, the greater the chances the injured person will survive. You can help save a life by knowing how to stop bleeding if someone, including yourself and/or your loved one, is injured.
This training is designed to educate and empower bystanders to help in bleeding emergencies, such as active shooter and mass casualty situations.
Anyone interested in receiving Stop the Bleed training is invited to attend the Stop the Bleed Training Open House.
Training will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 23, at the Boone County Extension Enrichment Center, 1824 Patrick Drive in Burlington.
Stop by anytime between those hours to receive training. Personal Stop the Bleed Kit door prizes will be awarded every 30 minutes.
