Rainbow Child Care Centers hosting diaper drive through Mother’s day for Sweet Cheek Diaper Bank

One in three families in America struggle to afford diapers for their children.

More than a staggering 16,000 diaper-wearing children in the Greater Cincinnati area are in need of supplies each month.

Rainbow Child Care Centers throughout Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky have partnered with local non-profit Sweet Cheek Diaper Bank to host a diaper drive now through Mother’s Day — Sunday, May 12.

Diapers are a basic need for children in the U.S., as they are as vital to their health and well-being just as much as food, shelter and affection. Lack of access to diapers forces families to leave a child in a soiled diaper longer than appropriate, which can lead to diaper rash and may cause staph and urinary tract infections.

Unfortunately, nearly 35 percent of local families with diaper-wearing children have had to cut back on basics such as food, utilities or child care in order to purchase diapers.

“Our goal at Rainbow is to support families in our communities with a happy, healthy and safe experience for all children,” said Danielle Corbin, Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky district leader at Rainbow Child Care Center. “This diaper drive offers us the ability to serve our communities needs in a different way and work with families and people all over the area to support this critical cause.”

As the only diaper bank serving the entire Greater Cincinnati area, Sweet Cheeks focuses on raising awareness of the basic health need for diapers and partners with local service agencies to eliminate the existence of diaper need.

The diapers Rainbow collects will be given to Sweet Cheeks to be provided to low-income families to eliminate diaper needs, one baby at a time.
