Much of Kentucky can expect to see daily highs in the 80s for the next week, so Kentucky state parks are offering a chance to beat the heat this summer as most of pools and beaches opened for Memorial Day weekend.

While lodge pools at the state resort parks are reserved for lodge and cottage guests, community pools at Greenbo Lake, Carter Caves, Levi Jackson, Blue Licks Battlefield, Cumberland Falls, E.P. “Tom” Sawyer, Kincaid Lake, Natural Bridge and Fort Boonesborough state parks charge a fee and are open to the public.

The park system’s 10 beaches are open to the public at no charge.

They are located at Pennyrile Forest, Lake Barkley, Kentucky Dam Village, Barren River Lake, Buckhorn Lake, Rough River Dam, Lake Malone, Nolin Lake, Carr Creek, and Green River Lake state parks.

There are indoor pools at Lake Barkley and Lake Cumberland state resort parks. The Lake Cumberland pool recently re-opened following repairs.

There are a few facilities that won’t be opening Memorial Day weekend.

Barren River Lake State Resort Park’s lodge pool will open in mid-June following repair work, however, the park’s beach opened May 24. E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park’s pool is scheduled to open June 1. Levi Jackson State Park’s pool opening and Lake Barkley’s beach opening will also be delayed.
