An exhibit that features the photography of some talented local students takes place Thursday, May 23 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Gateway Community Technical College’s gallery at 516 Madison Avenue, Covington.
“I am so proud of our middle school students that show up every Tuesday, super excited to pick up a camera and capture their world in photographs,” says Shannon Eggleston, founder and executive of director of i.imagine, a local nonprofit that provides a photography-based educational enrichment program for school grades six to 12.

i.imagine uses cameras to empower kids to find their souls and tell their stories and has reached approximately 100 kids throughout greater Cincinnati this year.
“From capturing portraits with window light, to discussing socials issues and how to express them in a photograph, we cover a lot of territory,” says Eggleston, who lives in Union and taught before deciding to pursue a career in photography. She found out she missed teaching, so she decided to merge photography with the classroom.
“The photographs are great, but the ways in which we bond through this art form are priceless.”
In addition to the Holmes Middle School Photography club, i.imagine will also feature the work of Holmes High School students who participate in i.imagine’s weekly Launch Pad program which meets at Gateway Community and Technical College’s Covington campus.
The Launch Pad teaches 21st century skills in product/studio photography, graphic design, and publishing, by creating a pet lover’s cookbook called, “Bone Appetit.” This special cookbook brings together great chefs of Greater Cincinnati and their recipes as they relate to a special pet.
“One of our favorite chef/pet duos brings together Dave Willocks of The Baker’s Table as he serves up his famous breakfast hash to the mayor of Rabbit Hash,” says Eggleston. “This project is so much for all of us. The kids are learning a ton, growing their resumes, and getting a weekly dose of puppy love. “Bone Appetit” is scheduled to release just in time for the holidays in November 2019.
Eggleston says she hopes members of the community will join them at the exhibit and cheer on young photographers.
