Seniors on three local high school basketball teams that made historic runs in the post-season playoffs were selected for the Kentucky All-Stars boys and girls teams that will play in the annual summer series against Indiana’s top seniors.

Ryle guard Lauren Schwartz was chosen for the girls all-star team. She was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Raiders, who won their school’s first state championship in basketball.

The boys all-star roster includes Campbell County forward Reid Jolly and Walton-Verona center Dieonte Miles. They were both voted first-team all-state for helping their teams reach new heights.

Walton-Verona made it to state tournament for the first time in 42 years and won its opening game with Miles getting 19 points, five rebounds, seven blocks and three assists in the victory. Campbell County reached the semifinals of the state tournament for the first time with Jolly leading the way. He had team-high totals of 60 points and 27 rebounds in three games.

Schwartz is a Rice University recruit and Miles will continue his career at Xavier University. Jolly has received college scholarship offers in both basketball and football, but he has not made a commitment.

Tryouts for the Kentucky All-Stars were held Saturday and rosters were announced Sunday night by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches. The teams will play boys and girls double-headers against the Indiana All-Stars on Friday, June 7 at Bellarmine College in Louisville and Saturday, June 8 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The No. 1 jersey on each team is worn by players selected Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball. This year, those jerseys went to Dontaie Allen of Pendleton County and Savannah Wheeler of Boyd County.

Allen will not be able to play in the summer series because he’s still recovering from knee surgery. That’s why there are 13 players on the boys roster and 12 on the girls roster.
