Letter to the Editor: Nidisa Thornton asks where has McConnell’s leadership taken us in standings

I wanted to know how Kentucky has been doing compared to the rest of the country during Mitch McConnell’s 34 years as senator and Majority Leader since 2015 (quite a powerful position!).

I found some studies which show that during these years Kentucky has been doing very poorly.

One of the richest senators in the nation, McConnell has failed to enrich the people of Kentucky.

In a U.S. News and World Report updated on May 14, 2018, of all states Kentucky ranked 4lst overall and ranked in the lower half of all states in 6 of the 8 categories.

Following are Kentucky’s rankings:

Economy: 45th
Fiscal Stability: 46th
Healthcare: 45th
Education: 34th
Opportunity: 30th
Quality of Life: 27th
Infrastructure: 22nd
Crime and Corrections: 9th.

I also found a survey* published in 2014 when McConnell had been in office for 29 years that rated Kentucky number l for all 50 states in the category of corruption. The study concludes that Kentucky’s state government was among the most corrupt overall in the country, and the worst when it comes to political favors in exchange for campaign contributions.

Facts are that McConnell has had 34 years to do better by us, time to vote him out. We’ve been paying a rich man to keep us poor.
