Hebron man charged with DUI, assault, wanton endangerment, in October crash on KY 18

A Hebron man has been arrested and charged in relation to a serious accident on Burlington Pike at McGrath Lane in October.

Lawrence Giovanni, 47, of Oak View Court is charged with three counts of wanton endangerment, 1st degree, one count of assault, 2nd degree and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

The accident resulted in injuries to all five occupants in the two vehicles, including Giovanni, and all were transported to local hospitals via air care. The names of the others injured in the crash have not been released.

The collision caused the road to be shut down for several hours.

Both vehicles were seriously damaged.

The force of the impact resulted in parts from the cars, including an engine and an axle, to be separated from the vehicles and strewn onto the highway.

The Boone County Sheriff’s office released the following statement Tuesday regarding the incident:

On Monday, April 22, 2019 at approximately 3:00 p.m. Boone County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested a Hebron, Kentucky man on charges related to a severe two-vehicle collision which occurred on KY-18 (Burlington Pike) and McGrath Lane in Burlington, Kentucky on October 13, 2018.

Lawrence Giovanni, 47 of Oak View Court in Hebron, Kentucky was picked up on a grand jury indictment warrant *charging him with Assault 2nd degree, Wanton Endangerment 1st degree (three counts), and Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs/etc. 

Giovanni was driving his BMW, according to witnesses, in excess of 100 mph when he collided with another car. The impact totally separated the engine from the other car. 

There were three (3) passengers in Giovanni’s car and the driver in the second car. All five (5) were taken to either University Hospital or Children’s Hospital; both drivers via Air Care helicopters.

Giovanni was released from the Boone County Detention Center after posting bond.
