Saturday is Great American Cleanup Day.

The City of Florence welcomes volunteers to join in this national program that provides an opportunity for residents and businesses to assist in keeping the city beautiful.

Businesses can become an event sponsor by donating gift cards.

Volunteers will meet at the Florence Public Services Maintenance Facility, 7850 Tanners Lane (across from Goodwill).  Volunteers will register at 8:30 a.m., eat breakfast, receive cleaning supplies, and then be transported to various locations throughout the city at 9 a.m., to pick up litter along the roadways. Lunch will be provided upon return.

Florence Firefighters recognized by American Heart Association

Firefighter/Paramedic Colin Myatt and Firefighter/EMT Jimmy Rose were presented with the “Door to Needle Award” by the American Heart Association Monday.

The award recognizes Myatt and Rose for their quick actions on an EMS incident earlier this year.

As a result of their assessment andquick notification to the St. Elizabeth Hospital Stroke team, the patient was able to receive proper quality care in a much faster time, which is the goal of the healthcare facility.

This faster definitive care resulted in a better outcome for the patient.

Tuesday, Myatt and Rose were recognized at the Florence City Council meeting for their actions.
