Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes continued to lead the conversation on recognizing the Commonwealth’s veterans and encouraging Kentuckians to actively support our veteran population at Freedom Fest’s 90th Ceremony. This was Grimes’ third tour stop to present Kentucky’s first-ever Military Civic Health Report.
“One of my top priorities since taking office nearly eight years ago has been to honor the service and sacrifice of Kentucky’s active duty military, veterans and their families,” said Grimes. “These are the folks who have fought for our freedoms, in particular our precious right to vote, and that right should not be taken for granted.”

“We are thankful for the voice that Secretary Grimes has been for veterans and our military, especially here in Kentucky,” said Doug Day, founder of Military Freedom Fest and Honors Ceremony. “In her tenure alone she has helped us honor over 500 veterans, advocated for better programs to assist our military, and has been a strong voice for us in Frankfort.”
This report marks the fifth statewide analysis conducted by Grimes regarding Kentucky’s civic health and is the first report of its kind examining military and veteran engagement, social connectedness and community involvement.
“We are excited about Kentucky’s Military Civic Health Report,” said retired Brig. Gen. Benjamin Adams, Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner. “And what it means to our veterans, agencies and organizations working for a better quality of life for our veteran communities, and Kentuckians at large.”
The report highlights the overwhelming number of veterans and veteran service organizations that are making a difference in Kentucky’s economy and culture.
“Kentucky’s active duty military and veterans lead the way in voter participation and civic engagement, they know well the value of the right to vote and importance in using your voice. I challenge all Kentuckians to join me in this conversation to ensure we continue to fully support our heroes,” said Grimes.
