Boonespring healthcare, rehabilitation center opens in Union; skilled nursing facility employs 200

Following years of regulatory and legal hurdles, the long-awaited Boonespring 94,000 sq.ft. state-of-the-art healthcare and rehabilitation center officially opened its doors at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday.

Top state and local elected officials were on hand to celebrate the opening of the $24 million new facility located atop a picturesque hillside along U.S. 42, just south of Union.

Boonespring was a vision of Carespring founder, Barry Bortz, who passed away in September 2016, after he secured the necessary approvals and plans to move forward with the facility.

“Part of Barry’s life was to always put a mark on everything he touched,” said Carespring CEO Chris Chirumbolo. “I’m proud to say that Boonespring is Carespring’s 11th skilled nursing facility, creating 200 jobs for Northern Kentucky.”

It took a bipartisan effort of support for the Boonespring project as it moved through the regulatory hurdles in Frankfort.

Sen. John Schickel and State Rep. Dennis Keene worked to move the project forward, along with Rep. Sal Santoro, former State Rep. Addia Wuchner, Boone County Judge-Executive Gary Moore and Campbell County Judge-Executive Steve Pendery.

“It is a great day for Boone County,” said Chief Operating Officer, John Muller.
