Turfway Park selections for Saturday

Turfway Park provides expert picks to the Northern Kentucky Tribune during the live racing meets.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16:

Race 1

TIMES SQUARE is a $250,000 Ocala sales grad who only started once for Todd Pletcher. He moves to the barn of Jose Fernandez for his comeback and has been training steadily at Calumet. He looks best despite the 11-month layoff. PRIVATE BOONE ran well in his only start here and is definitely the one to beat. JULIANO raced for a tag last out but ran a decent race and should improve.

Race 2

KNOCKOUT GIRL came up short in her first race back after a year on the side lines. She figures to move forward in here and gets the nod with Franklin back aboard for Tom Drury. VOODOOTHATYOUDO beat the top pick easily last out and will be tough in here. MUNCHIES is good right now and has to be respected.

Race 3

DREAM PARK has been running well at this level and appears to be in a good spot to pick up the win tonight. DAYIN DEAUVILLE exits the same race as the top pick and figures to be the main competition. CLASSIC ARCH is a contender.

Race 4

GETYOURMINDRIGHT was firing bullets in the morning at The Training Center but failed to fire when shipped to Aqueduct and ran last. He may not have cared for that track but he definitely needed the race and should be ready to win tonight. QUIET THE CRITICS is a $300,000 Keeneland sales grad who debuts for Mick Ruis. He has also been working well at The Training Center and looks dangerous in this spot. INFINITE is a newly turned 3-year-old taking on older runners but has to be respected in a very good maiden race.

Race 5

Not much to choose from in this bottom claimer so I’m taking a shot with SOUTHERN CROSS. He has been off since September but is training well and gets the nod. BROTHER CESARE ran poorly as the favorite last out but a return to his best makes him the one to beat. MONKEYWITMYBIDNESS will be running at the end.

Race 6

HEAVENLY HILL looked sharp winning last out for Mike Maker. She has the speed to be on or near the lead again tonight and figures to make it two in a row with Prescott back aboard. SUGARSUGARSUGAR also comes off a nice win. She will be running at the end and is the one to beat. DON’T STOP MARIA rates a chance.

Race 7

ROYAL SON is a 7-year-old veteran who has earned over $330,000. He loves this track and comes in off a solid third-place finish in the Prairie Bayou. He figures to be in good position throughout and looks like a winner for Kellyn Gorder with Luan Machado picking up the mount. MIDNIGHT PLEASURE finished behind the top pick in the Prairie Bayou but came back to win the Forego with a terrific stretch run. He will be tough to beat tonight. BROKEN PROMISE has never been better but would have to improve to handle the top two.

Race 8

ARTEMUS BRIDGE and UNITY finished in a dead heat last out and a nose apart two races back. It’s tough to separate these two but give the edge to ARTEMUS BRIDGE, who is making just his third career start and should be ready for his top effort tonight. MR ZYDECO looks best of the rest.
