Turfway Park selections for Saturday

Turfway Park provides expert picks to the Northern Kentucky Tribune during the live racing meets.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 9:

Race 1

TAKIN THE SLOROAD has a solid record over this track and comes off a nice win last out. He rates the slight edge in what looks like a well matched starter allowance race. UNSTABLED ran a decent race in his first try over the Poly and should move forward off that effort. Tom Drury’s horses are running well right now and this one figures to be tough to beat. MR GREY will be running late and is a definite threat.

Race 2

ZAPPER drops a notch in class and hooks a fairly weak bunch. He should be able to get his maiden score tonight. ALL HANDS ON DECK was beaten by the top pick last out but has the speed to be on or near the lead and is the one to catch. SCOUTING is a contender.

Race 3

WARLEGGAN just missed last out and was well clear of the third place finisher in that one. He appears to be in a good spot to pick up the win for Brett Santangelo with Serpa back aboard. SABBATARIAN had to need his last race after a long layoff. Look for improvement from him tonight. DIAL ONE drops to the bottom and has the speed to be tough at this level.

Race 4

STRIKE PLAY drops in class for Wes Ward and should be able to beat this bunch with Julio Garcia picking up the mount. SIR YARNALLTON was no match for a runaway winner last out but ran well to finish second and looks like the main competition for the favorite. AMIGO MIKE has had only one race and could improve.

Race 5

IMPULSIVE takes the big class drop and has the speed to be on or near the lead throughout. She appears to be in a good spot to pick up her maiden win this evening. VORTICES comes in off a couple of solid efforts for Jamie Grubbs and looks like the one to beat. RAGAZZA VELOCE rates a chance.

Race 6

LUCY’S TOWN was an impressive winner two starts back and hooked much better in her last race. Her best would be good enough to win this with Franklin back aboard for Marshall Godsey. GO STELLAIRE makes her third start back after a long layoff and Johnny McKee picks up the mount. SHOWED UP LATE has the speed to be a contender.

Race 7

RULELIKECLEOPATRA loves this track. She has won nine of her 18 races here and has finished in the money in 15 of those starts. She figures to get a good trip from just off the pace and she looks best for Danner and Franklin. LOVE THE POWER also runs her best at Turfway. She will be on or near the lead and is always tough to catch. PARKING TICKET drops back in for a tag and has to be respected in a tough race.

Race 8

ACES AND EIGHTS just missed last out at this level and a similar performance would make him a winner in here. UNCATCHABLE was well backed in his first start after an eight-month layoff. He faded after showing speed in that one but drops to the bottom and is the one to beat tonight. DEE’S RONNIE looks best of the rest.
