Turfway Park selections for Friday

Turfway Park provides expert picks to the Northern Kentucky Tribune during the live racing meets. Tonight’s picks supplied by Bret Battaglia.

Race 1

FUN SUCKER didn’t show much on the dirt at Mahoning in her last start but ran two solid races here at Turfway before that one and could score here with the switch of surfaces tonight. BELLA KRISTINA was second-best against many of the same fillies in her last start and looks like the one to beat here. WAR EAGLE’S LOVE moves to this bottom level for the first time and has to be considered.

Race 2

TOO COOL didn’t fire last time out but ran two solid races over the track before that one. Give her a slight edge against a wide-open field tonight. NATIVE WONDER ran a game second against similar last time out and would be no surprise here. ALLIE GRACE was in decent form before she bolted in her last start. A return to her previous form makes her a contender here.

Race 3

RED HOT WARRIOR just missed in his last start on the move back down in class. A repeat of that effort could make him a winner tonight. BIG KICK drops in class after a few even efforts over the track and could be tough to beat at this level. MR. HAIRE comes in off two second-place finishes against similar and can’t be left out of the gimmicks.

Race 4

BYE BYE BULLY’S ran a game second last time out in her first attempt around two turns and looks best in a wide-open maiden field. CALL ME FANCY lost all chance when she hit the gate in her debut at Gulfstream but should be ready for a better effort tonight for Maker and the Ramseys. CHANNEL PRINCESS ran a solid race in her debut and shouldn’t mind the move around two turns.

Race 5

IVA shows two wins and a second from three career starts, including a nice second-place finish against stakes company at Gulfstream in her last race, and will be tough to beat here if she handles the Polytrack. THUNDEROUS GEM has been idle since November when she didn’t fire at Churchill. She showed three strong efforts over two different all-weather tracks before that one and could be dangerous on the switch in surfaces tonight. WORKAHOLIC has run well in each of her last two starts here at Turfway.

Race 6

ROGUE TOO looked very sharp winning by more than 12 lengths last time out against many of the same fillies she faces tonight. She figures to be a short price here but still looks tough to beat despite the shorter distance. NOBLE DESTINY was second-best behind the top pick last time out and looks best of the rest. CROSSING ALASKA doesn’t run coupled with the top pick tonight and should appreciate the move back around one turn.

Race 7

LOVE IS ALIVE showed a great deal of improvement to finish third last time in her second career start and could score the win tonight if she continues to move forward. CYCLICAL has been off since June when was fifth as the favorite on the grass at Belmont and could be tough to handle if she’s ready for her return. SPEIGHT’S COMETE posted a bullet work over the track for Rice coming into this one.

Race 8

ABBY BRILLIANT didn’t fire last time out but showed some decent form against tougher before that one and is the choice to pick up the maiden win. TRUE SIMPLICITY was second-best last time out and looks like a contender again tonight. KINKY was well beaten in her last two starts on dirt but could move forward on the move back to all-weather.
