The Simon Kenton girls basketball team clinched a berth in the 8th Region tournament for the 14th consecutive year with a lopsided 39-7 win over Williamstown in the 32nd District playoffs on Monday night at Simon Kenton.

The victory puts Simon Kenton (19-10) in the district final on Thursday. The district winner and runner-up both advance to the next round of the playoffs so the Pioneers will be in the regional bracket once again.
Simon Kenton has made it to the 8th Region championship game 10 times in the last 13 years and won its fifth title last season. The Pioneers have a 27-8 record in regional tournament games under coach Jeff Stowers.
Lloyd, Bellevue and Calvary Christian are the other girls teams that won district playoff games on Monday. On the boys side, Bellevue, Brossart, Boone County, Simon Kenton and Villa Madonna posted victories.
In the closest game of the night, Bellevue defeated Dayton, 62-57, in the boys 36th District. The Tigers will play top-seeded Newport in a district semifinal game on Tuesday that will decide a 9th Region tournament berth.
