The Kentucky Arts Council and arts organizations from across the state will celebrate Arts Day in Kentucky, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 22 on the Capitol Mezzanine, 700 Capital Ave. in Frankfort.
The arts council hosts Arts Day each year during the legislative session to bring awareness to the many roles the arts play in the Commonwealth. Arts leaders, artists, the general public and other supporters of the arts gather to celebrate the arts and the creative industry and recognize the Kentucky General Assembly for its continued support of the arts.
“We look forward to Arts Day in Kentucky each year because it’s a chance for so many arts leaders across the state to meet with each other and their legislators, share ideas and broaden their professional circles,” said Chris Cathers, arts council executive director. “It’s good fellowship, and everyone returns to their communities energized to promote the arts where they live.”
For the 2019 fiscal year, the arts council awarded $1,033,966 in Kentucky Arts Partnership (KAP) grants to 89 arts organizations throughout the state.
In addition to providing an avenue for Kentucky artists to meet their legislators, Arts Day will also feature demonstrations by visual artists, including:
• Lakshmi Sriraman, Lexington, painting
• Jason Sturgill, Lexington, graphics
• Patricia Brennan, Ft. Thomas, quilter
