President Donald Trump has announced that he will nominate Kentuckian Kelly Craft, currently U.S. Ambassador to Canada, as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
She will have to be confirmed by the Senate.
Craft, who is a native of Glasgow, lived in Lexington until her appointment to Canada in October 2017 when she and her husband, Joe, moved to Ottawa.

Mitch McConnell. “She has a long record of service to her state and the nation and I’m confident she will continue to serve with distinction as America’s voice to the world at the United Nations. I was proud to recommend this remarkable Kentuckian to President Trump.”
Craft headed Kelly G. Knight, LLC, a business advisory firm based in Lexington. She was appointed in 2007 by then-President George W. Bush to serve as a U.S. delegate to the United Nations.
She has served in key roles for several organizations, including the board of directors for the Salvation Army, and the Center for Rural Development, a non-profit dedicated to economic progress in rural Kentucky.
She is a co-founder of the Craft Academy for Science and Mathematics at Morehead State University and a member of the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees, where she earned a bachelor’s degree.
Craft grew up in Glasgow, the daughter of late veterinarian Dr. Bobby Guilfoil. She graduated from the University of Kentucky and is married to Joseph Craft who owns Alliance Resource Partners, a coal company. She has two children from a previous marriage.
She has long been a Republican activist, having served as finance chair for the Republican Party of Kentucky and is known as a skillful fundraiser
I suspect Mrs. Craft knew nothing about Canada before being appointed to her present position. I suspect she knows even less about world affairs required of her new position. This is McConnell leadership. This is Trump leadership.
I suspect you would rather live in Venezuela. When are you leaving?
Can you name any qualification she might have for the job other than the millions the Crafts have contributed to the Republican party?
I see Dani L did not answer that request! There may not be a good answer. The major qualification of many of Trump’s appointees is that they are wealthy.
