Gateway Community & Technical College hosted a day-long campus tour for more than 260 high school sophomores, juniors and seniors from the tristate area who are considering attending Gateway.
Students from local area high schools toured Gateway’s Boone, Edgewood and Urban Metro campuses.
Super Someday is a high school recruitment event providing hands-on, relevant, and program-based experiences for all students during their visit to Gateway.
Students explored the Urban Metro Campus and learned about multiple programs and services in the Center for Technology, Innovation and Enterprise (TIE) building, including the student run computer repair shop. Students also saw transportation programing at the Transportation Technology Center. Students also learned about Gateway’s professional services, including the massage therapy program.
At the Edgewood Campus, students received information about many of Gateway’s healthcare programs including nursing, medical assisting and health information technology.
Students learned about manufacturing engineering technology and biology at Gateway’s Boone Campus. They participated in hands-on activities with the manufacturing equipment.
Gateway staff and faculty provided tours and information about career pathways and learning opportunities offered at Gateway. Staff presented information about enrollment, financial aid and student support services as well.
“Super Someday gives Gateway employees the chance to showcase to the high school students what makes them proud to work here,” said Kristen Smitherman-Voltaire, director of diversity, inclusion & community engagement at Gateway. “The high school students and counselors leave with a positive sense of Gateway and the people who work here.”
High school students and counselors from Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati were invited. Scott High School, Boone County Area Technology Center, Dater High School, Aiken New Tech High School, Dayton High School, Bellevue High School, Walton Verona High School, Ryle High School, Lloyd High School, Covington Catholic High School and Williamstown High School were in attendance.
“We were thrilled to host our area high school students on our campuses learning about our programs, transfer options and financial aid opportunities,” said Dr. Fernando Figueroa, Gateway president. “I commend our staff and faculty for creating such a welcoming and informative experience. We look forward to seeing our guests today as Gateway students in the future.”
