Covington FOP scholarship

Covington’s police union wants to give $500 to a Covington high school senior who is headed to college.

To earn the Covington FOP Lodge #1 Fallen Officer Scholarship, seniors should click here to fill out the and write an essay answering “What does living in Covington mean to me?” The essay should be 400 to 700 words long and must be original and previously unpublished.

The FOP is using the scholarship, it says, is “to continue investing in the future of Covington through encouraging the development of tomorrow’s leaders.”

Applicants must be a high school senior and a resident of Covington.

Governor’s appointment

Kristopher J. Kellinghaus of Fort Thomas has been appointed as a member of the Kentucky Public Employees Deferred Compensation Authority Board.

Kellinghaus is an investment advisor. He will serve for a term expiring Jan. 16, 2023.

The Kentucky Public Employees Deferred Compensation Authority is composed of seven members, four of whom are appointed by the Governor, which serve as trustees of and administers the Kentucky State Public Employees Compensation Trust Fund.

Recycled tire grants

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet wants grant proposals for projects that promote the use of recycled tires.

Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. April 1 at the Division of Waste Management’s office, 300 Sower Boulevard, Frankfort KY 40601.

The cabinet is seeking to fund projects for landscaping mulch projects, walking trails, pour-in-place playgrounds, sidewalks or other surfaces, horse trailer or stall mats, tree wells or other products that used recycled Kentucky tires.

Grant funding comes from the Waste Tire Trust Fund, established in 1998. Applicants will provide match funding equal to at least 25 percent of the project cost.
