A 45-year-old Union woman was killed in an early-morning, three-vehicle accident in Walton today, according to the Boone Count Sheriff’s office.

The woman has been identified as Amy L. Skiba, 45. Next of kin has been notified.

Two children from her vehicle and the driver of another vehicle were also injured in the crash that occurred on Richwood Road.

The Boone County Sheriff’s office issued the following statement regarding the accident:

On Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at approximately 7:20 a.m. a three vehicle, head-on/side-swipe collision in the 700 block of Richwood Road (KY-338) in Walton, Kentucky claimed the life of one of the drivers and sent two (2) children of that vehicle, and another driver to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Darrin Carroll, 42 of Union, Kentucky was operating a 2003 Chevrolet flatbed truck eastbound on Richwood Road when the right axles went off the side of the road.

As Carrol brought it back onto the roadway the truck started a yaw rotation as it continued forward crossing the center line and colliding with a westbound 2018 Honda Accord in a head-on, side-swipe manner which essentially peeled the side of the car back killing the 45 year old driver, Amy L. Skiba, 45 of Union, Kentucky. The children in the car, both 12 years old, are her children. Next of kin has been notified.

The flatbed continued its rotation to approximately 180 degrees ending up on the North side of the roadway causing the bed to totally disengage from the truck’s frame and then colliding with a westbound 2017 Toyota pickup truck operated by Angela Sulcer, 53 of Union, Kentucky. Carroll was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence, Kentucky as were the two children. Sulcer was not injured in the collision.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision and requests anyone who might have witnessed it to call (859) 334-2175. As of this writing the roadway between Chambers Road and Hicks Pike was closed and expected to be so until approximately noon today. Darrin Carrol was transferred from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence, Kentucky to University Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
