The Kenton County Planning Commission’s Implementation Committee will host a public open house on the Direction 2030 comprehensive plan’s Land Use element.
This meeting will take place on January 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the PDS Building, 2332 Royal Drive in Fort Mitchell.
The Land Use element of a local comprehensive plan illustrates how a community wants land within its boundaries to develop or redevelop in the future. By publishing this information ahead of time, the community expresses its vision, signaling to interested parties the type of development applications it is likely to approve.
Future land use recommendations for the Cities of Crescent Springs, Crestview Hills, Fort Wright, Lakeside Park, Park Hills, Taylor Mill, Villa Hills, and Walton will be the focus of this open house. Everyone interested in helping guide the future of these communities should plan to attend.
The Planning Commission initiated this process as part of its ongoing review of the comprehensive plan.
Updated recommendations for the Cities of Bromley, Edgewood, Elsmere, Erlanger, Fairview, Fort Mitchell, Independence, Kenton Vale, Ludlow, and Ryland Heights were approved by the Planning Commission in August. Recommendations for Unincorporated Kenton County and Covington will conclude the process later in 2019.
“State law requires us to review our plans from time to time,” said Jeff Bethell of Fort Mitchell, Chairperson of the Implementation Committee. “We decided that in this review, it would be good to work with each of our cities for a closer review of land use. The project helps us get their leaders’ thoughts on direction for the future of their communities.”
The meeting on January 15 is the first opportunity for public input for this phase, but it will not be the last.
“We are on track to have our required public hearing later this winter,” explained Bethell. “Once we work through the comments from this open house, we should have a better idea of when the actual date of the final hearing will be set.”

About a development area: You have a golf course driving range on Madison Pike named Ft Wright Golf Course Driving Range. I suggest to consolidate all of the wooded land in it’s surrounding from Howard Litzler Road to the driving range and all of the wooded land on both sides of the creek to the railroad track and turn it into a golf course such as a par 3 course or 9 hole or 18 hole course. If not that then a public park with a paved hiking trail and a bike trail.
The first stage of the project is to cut down all of the woods and profit as much as possible from the wood. The second stage of the project is to hire a golf course or park designer. Names might include Kenton County Golf Course or Public Park.
You can build small golf kart bridges over the creek in more than one location, and even a bike path or golf kart path that goes beneath the railroad track like a small paved tunnel. Heavy duty landscaping equipment can level part of the ground where it seems impossible to manage for a golf course as is, after the woods have been cut down and removed.
