NKU’s veteran’s holiday drive, coordinated by student Claudia Reh, collects 500 pounds of donations

Northern Kentucky University’s Veterans Resource Station collected more than 500 pounds of donations during its two-week “Friends of Veterans” holiday drive.

NKU student, Claudia Reh, coordinated the holiday drive.

NKU’s campus community dropped off canned food, clothes, and other items during the collection from Nov. 26 through Dec. 7.

NKU’s Labor Crew delivered the items to the Joseph House in Over the Rhine and the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary in Ft. Thomas on Dec. 13 and 14. The Veterans Resource Station holds “Fill the Boot” donation drives throughout the year, with this drive focusing on the holidays.

“One of our student workers, Claudia Reh, had the idea to hold a holiday donations drive,” said Ralph Carmichael, Veterans Resource Station coordinator.

“We put the boot out, and the donations just started coming in. We even had items dropped off after our collection ended. The response was overwhelming, and we are humbled by the support from our campus to share the holiday spirit.”

NKU serves nearly 500 veterans, active family members, National Guardsmen, Reservists, and ROTC students.

The Veterans Resource Station, established in 2013, provides seamless assistance with applications, financial aid, VA education benefits, advising, registration, career services and more. NKU has been named a Military Times 2019 “Best for Vets” institution, and it also received the Military Friendly School Gold Status by Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life.
