Temple collects triple-double, Thomas More women coast to 95-69 win over Midway (Ky.)

Thomas More women’s basketball standout Madison Temple is the epitome of versatility, and the senior guard displayed why Wednesday night against Midway (Ky.) in the Connor Convocation Center.

Temple recorded a triple-double as the Saints cruised to a 95-69 win over visiting Midway. She finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for Thomas More (2-0), which is ranked No. 5 nationally in the NCAA Division III poll. Temple also added three blocks and five steals in the team’s home opener.

Thomas More, which posted a 30-2 record in 2017-18 and advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four, has not lost a regular-season game in almost a year. The Saints’ last defeat in the regular season occurred on Nov. 18, 2017, when Rochester (N.Y.) pulled out a 61-58 win over visiting Thomas More.

After building a 44-32 lead at the half, Thomas More outscored Midway 29-14 in the third quarter to build a 73-46 lead. The Saints shot 57.1 percent from the field in the third stanza as junior guard Kaela Saner scored 13 of her 16 points. Temple added nine points during the third-quarter spurt.

It marked Temple’s second career triple-double. She also collected a triple-double against against Westminster (Pa.) on Feb. 8, 2017, with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

Thomas More finished with a 54-24 scoring advantage in the paint and a 28-6 edge in second-chance points. Freshman guard Asyah Mitchell finished with 17 points and six rebounds for Thomas More, while senior forward Shelby Rupp added eight points and seven rebounds.

Senior guard Kelly Clapper finished with seven points and three rebounds for the Saints. Haleigh Yazell scored 22 points to lead Midway (1-3).

Thomas More plays Convenant (Ga.) on Friday at 5 p.m. in the Centre College Tournament in Danville. The Saints conclude the two-day tournament against Meredith (N.C.) College at 4 p.m. Saturday.
