Newport Police ‘not shaving’ for charity — growing beards, raising money to help needy Newport kids

The Newport Police Officers are participating in a charity event this month called the “Newport Police No Shave Charity Event”.

From Now until November 30, there will be some “furry” officers around the city as they have entered into a “relaxed” grooming standard by donating a specific amount of money for charity.

The charity is for the Newport Schools Family Resource Center, a program specifically designed to support the children in their community.

The program, which is applied for each year, has workers at each of the Newport schools who identify children in need. The program can provide clothing such as jackets, shoes, hats, and gloves to children who do not have these items. It also helps with child hunger issues within the city by identifying children who suffer from hunger and sending home “food packs” with these children. The packs have nutritious food and meals that the children can have over the weekend and away from the school.

The officers have observed first hand some situations that are in need of direct attention and want to raise money and support this program to help the children of Newport.

The 39-officer department has donated over $1,200 of their own money to start this charity drive.

The goal is to raise at least $1,000 more.

The Officers have networked with 5/3rd Bank to set up a benefit account titled “Newport Police No Shave Charity.”

Donors can stop by ANY 5/3rd banking location to make a contribution to the “Newport Police No Shave Charity.”

Every dollar helps. The deadline is November 30.
