Florence Community Plaza on Mall Road, created through donation of property, set to open

In 2016, the City of Florence was the recipient of a very generous donation of land on Mall Road.

The donor stipulated that the land was to be used expressly for the development of a public space and worked closely with the city to create the Florence Community Plaza concept.

Dedicated to those who serve and protect the city, the Plaza recognizes the members of our Police Department, Fire/EMS Department and our Public Services Department.

Each department will be represented in their own designated area of the Plaza by a bronze statue memorializing their respective members. At the base of each statue will be bricks with the names of members of each department who have retired.

The Florence Community Plaza will be available for the casual enjoyment of its residents, but also will serve as a gathering spot for City events such as the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Neighborhood Nights Out.

Funds for completion of the park were also made possible through the sale of city property to the Northern Kentucky District Health Department for the construction of its new Ewing Boulevard offices located on the Florence Government Center campus.

The statues were slated to be installed at the Community Plaza this week, and the Plaza will be the site of the City’s Christmas Tree Lighting on Tuesday, December 4.
