Pitts rushes for career-high 204 yards as Thomas More posts 41-27 win at Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. — Hjavier Pitts rushed for a career-high 204 yards and two touchdowns Saturday afternoon as the Thomas More University football team extended its winning streak to five with a 41-27 victory at Emory & Henry.

Justin Post passed for three touchdowns as Thomas More improved to 5-1. The Saints finished with 471 yards of total offense and pulled away to post their fourth road win of the season. Emory & Henry dropped to 2-2.

Pitts, a senior running back from Cincinnati, averaged 9.7 yards per carry on Saturday. His 63-yard touchdown run in the second quarter extended Thomas More’s lead to 24-10. He later added a 35-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that increased the Saints advantage to 41-20.

For the season, Pitts has now gained 906 yards on the ground with eight touchdowns. He averages 7.0 yards per carry and 151 yards per game. His 204-yard performance on Saturday marked the 13th time a Thomas More player has gained at least 200 yards in a game.

The Thomas More single-game rushing record is 336 yards, set by Domonique Hayden against Westminster in 2014.

Post was 10-of-19 passing for 180 yards, and he also rushed the ball six times for 62 yards. One of those completions was a 61-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Da’marco Canty.

Linebacker Cody Coffey led Thomas More with 12 tackles, including eight solos. Defensive back Thomas Williams added 11 tackles and a forced fumble. Thomas More is now 1-1 all-time against Emory & Henry.

Thomas More returns home next Saturday to play host to nationally ranked Muhlenberg (Pa.) at noon at BB&T Field. Muhlenberg is ranked No. 24 in this week’s NCAA Division III poll.
