NonProfit Briefs: Kenton Co. Rotary hosting forums, Boone schools get Duke grant, SIDS fundraiser


Forum for Elsmere and Erlanger Mayor candidates

The Rotary Club of Kenton County will host a candidate forum featuring Elsmere Mayoral candidates Marty Lenhof and Preston Ritter, Jr., along with Erlanger Mayoral candidates Randy Blankenship and Jessica Fette on Wednesday, October 24, at Lloyd Memorial High School, Dietz Auditorium, 450 Bartlett Avenue, Erlanger.

The candidate forum featuring the Elsmere Mayoral candidates will begin at 6 p.m. and the candidate forum featuring the Erlanger Mayoral candidates will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Rotary Club of Kenton County is a non-political organization and will be hosting this event as a service to the Elsmere and Erlanger communities highlighting issues that affect community sustainability and livability by discussing a range of important local issues relative to the residents of Elsmere and Erlanger. Moderator for this forum will be Matt Grimes who is a member of the Rotary Club of Kenton County and owner of the Colonial Cottage in Erlanger, Kentucky.

Duke Energy Award

Duke Energy presented Boone County Schools Energy Teams and our STEM-related initiatives a $10,000 grant to be used to build awareness of energy efficient practices. Each year the Duke Energy Foundation provides more than $30 million in charitable grants supporting literacy and fostering an interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Duke partners with communities to continue growing and producing skilled workers who bring new thinking and innovation to our lives.

Newport residents Jean-Robert and Annette de Cavel invite you to The Friends and Family SIDS Brunch at the Midwest Culinary Institute at Cincinnati State on Sunday, October 21. The brunch features food and beverages from the area’s top chefs and premier wine vendors, a fabulous Silent Auction, hands-on kids’ activities and live entertainment. Tickets are $75 for Adults, $25 for Children.
 
Money raised during the event supports The de Cavel Family SIDS Foundation, which funds local efforts to promote the message of safe sleep for infants, provides safe sleeping arrangements for hundreds of families in our area, supports research to eradicate SIDS and also provides educational opportunities for culinary students. Tatiana, Jean-Robert and Annette’s first-born daughter, died in 2002 from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
