‘Meet Your Neighbor’ event for Westside hosted by Cov’s Center for Great Neighborhoods

The Center for Great Neighborhoods, through funding from the Kresge Foundation for their FreshLo Initiative, will transform outdoor and indoor spaces in Covington’s Westside neighborhood into a vibrant platform for community conversation, connections, and sharing.

The project, Meet Your Neighbor, will take place on Saturday, October 20, from noon – 4 p.m. at The Hellmann Creative Center located at 321 W. MLK, Covington.

The event plans to accelerate community conversation, people-oriented development and introduce neighbors of diverse backgrounds to one another.

The day will highlight the diversity located in Covington’s Westside neighborhood; where neighborhood families are given the chance to not only prepare and share food that represents their culture but also participate in activities that bring families together with themselves and others in the neighborhood.

The event will also host a staged living space, complete with financial tools to help with household management.

To celebrate and kick off the day’s event there will be a tree planting ceremony at the start of the event and an unveiling of a community art project created with the help of students for John G. Carlisle Elementary School.

The day was planned by neighborhood residents who took part in The Center’s FreshLo Fellows (FLF) program. FLF is an 8-week project management opportunity for Covington residents interested in developing new skills while organizing an event, workshop, or program for the community.

Fellows are taught skills in project development and management and have the opportunity to plan and lead an event, workshop, or activity for the community.
