‘Give Where You Live’ brings Speed Philanthropy to NKY, thanks to Horizon funds, Mueller Financial

Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky and Mueller Financial, Inc. have joined forces to drive Give Where You Live NKY, a program to bring new funds to nonprofits through very brief, quarterly gatherings.

The format of Give Where You Live NKY lends itself to community members who might be too busy for boards or volunteering but want to make an impact in Northern Kentucky. Participating members arrive at a meeting and place the name of a Northern Kentucky nonprofit of their choice in a pool, and three names are randomly selected and briefly discussed by the group.

The members then vote on the three organizations, with the top organization receiving the funds from that meeting. Each member contributes $100 for the grant to the winning organization, and the group disperses. All takes place in under an hour, just four times per year.

“We are thrilled about Give Where You Live NKY, which provides an opportunity for our community to come together in a new and exciting way to benefit local charities,” said Nancy Grayson, President of Horizon Community Funds. “This innovative giving circle reinforces our commitment to connecting people with their community by fostering a more robust culture of giving.”

The format also provides a way to connect funds to nonprofits without the need for nonprofits to expend financial resources and staff time on fundraising. Give Where You Live NKY aims to offer nonprofits at least $10,000 through each quarterly vote, with the check being administered by Horizon Community Funds.

“We are excited to bring this new charitable endeavor to life,” adds Mueller Financial, Inc. Partner Woody Mueller. “We at Mueller Financial, Inc. have been truly blessed, and want to pass on these gifts to many well-deserved Northern Kentucky charitable organizations through this fun and interactive group.”

The program plans to convene at least 100 charter members for its first event in spring 2019, and its advisory board is currently collecting a list of interested participants.

The current advisory board members are:

• Jeffrey Brogan – Vice President and General Manager, WCPO – 9 On Your Side
• Tess Brown – Director of Marketing & Communications, Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky
• Linnea Caldon – Retired
• Phyllis Lynch – Owner of Minuteman Press, Florence
