Florence Rotary teams up with Boone high schools to tackle food insecurity; take donations to games

The Rotary Club of Florence, Kentucky which serves all of Boone County is teaming up with the four high schools of Boone County to tackle food insecurity at the Friday night, October 12th football games.

Rotarians will be collecting donations at the Boone County High School at Cooper High School game and the Ryle High School at Conner High School game.

Both games are at 7 pm.

All proceeds will benefit the local organization GO Pantry which provides weekend food GO Bags and GO Boxes for school breaks to food insecure families throughout Boone County. GO Bags are now distributed to almost 350 children each week in Boone County.

“We are super thankful for the Rotary Club of Florence and the faithful support they provide GO Pantry,” said Laura Dumancic of GO Pantry.  “Battle of the Schools is a great example of just how innovative this group can be when it comes to raising resources for GO Pantry.  Community partners like the Rotary Club of Florence are the fuel that keeps GO Pantry faithfully providing food to local kids in need.”

This is the first time for this event for the Rotary Club of Boone County.

The Club applied for a District 6740 Grant which will supplement the $4,500 needed to cover an entire weekend worth of food for the GO Bags.

Members of the club and the collections at these football games will cover the bulk of the funds needed to meet that target amount. The Rotarians will also provide volunteer support at the weekend packing event in January.
