Candidates: Terri King Schoborg seeks to be Kenton County family court judge

I am seeking the position of Kenton County family court judge because both my passion and my expertise are in Kenton County family court.

For over 3 decades, I have worked diligently on child protection law cases in Kenton County collaborating with social workers and other community partners to achieve positive results for families in need of services. I have represented both fathers and mothers in every type of family law case.

The family court has tremendous responsibility and power. In addition to child protection cases, the family court decides termination of parental rights, child custody, and adoption. A family court judge makes critical decisions, and with this power comes the opportunity to positively affect lives through fair and insightful rulings. I am seeking this Office because I have dedicated myself to helping families in Kenton County and I believe this is the natural extension of my life’s work.

I am a lifetime resident of Kenton County. I graduated from Villa Madonna Academy, Georgetown College and Salmon P Chase College of law. I have practiced law for 33 years maintaining a law practice with my brother, Phillip E. King since 1985. Over the years, I practiced law in the area of criminal defense, family law, and personal injury law. I have extensive trial experience. I was designated Chairwoman Emeritus of the Kentucky Personnel Board and have presided over many hearings in Frankfort as a hearing officer and member of that Board. I am licensed to practice law in Kentucky, Ohio and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

I currently focus my practice in child protective law. I served as a panel member and chairperson Of the Kenton County Guardian ad litem and appointed counsel committee beginning in 1988. As a panel member, I contributed to the drafting of Local Rules governing the appointment of Counsel and Guardian ad litems for dependency abuse and neglect proceedings.

I have been married to Jeffrey Schoborg for 27 years and have raised three children. Alex, age 18, attends the University of Louisville as an economics major, Ben, age 21, attends the University of Louisville where he is earning a degree in mechanical engineering. Cassie, age 23, a graduate of Notre Dame Academy and Hanover College, currently attends University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where she is studying to be a physician.

My legal and my life experiences make me the best choice for family court judge.

Child protection cases encompass the most important work of the family court. Over 3 decades I have represented either a parent or a child in an estimated 7500 family law cases. The majority of these cases were by court appointment from at least 10 different judges.

I have 5 years’ experience acting in a judicial capacity. During my tenure as a hearing officer for the Kentucky Personnel Board, I conducted evidentiary hearings and issued recommended findings of fact and conclusions of law and orders in cases concerning state merit system employees. I am dedicated to the Kenton County community.

By judicial appointment, I served as a member and chairperson of the Kenton County Foster Care Review Board for 7 years. I have always served in leadership positions at my church and I currently and have for the past 31 years taught Sunday School to children. I understand the commitment it takes to raise successful children.

It is my privilege to have the endorsements of our first responders including: Kenton County FOP Lodge 20, Covington FOP Lodge 1, Erlanger Elsmere FOP Lodge 55 and the Covington Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 38. I am also endorsed by the Kentucky Right to Life Pact and the Northern Kentucky Labor Council.

Perhaps most significantly, in the May primary, I received the endorsement of the voters of Kenton County by receiving the most votes for this position.

  1. Terri King Schoborg You have run a very Judge worthy campaign for the position of Family Court Judge in Kenton County I am very proud of you and your family and friends. You won the primary election with great dignity and respect and you have now ask the citizens to support you in the general election and I pray they do for you are truly the most extraordinary experienced person to serve in this capacity. As a Government teacher and former Superintendent of Education for the Commonwealth of Kentucky I appreciate your experience with children and families. Your lifetime in this particular field of law well bode us well as our family Court Judge. It has been a honor to support you and it was a pleasure to vote for you absentee the other day and Ms. June Geiman Stephenson will vote Tuesday November 6th for you and we encourage all our citizens to ignore the hidden special interest money being spent by legal groups claiming that they or nonpartisan. The last thing we need is a group of Lawyers telling us who they think we must elect to be our Judges with hidden funds pumped into campaigns. All contributors should be public knowledge prior to the election particularly since these same group of Lawyers will be appearing before the Judge and personally I see this as being a total conflict of interest for this shameful group of elites to dump unknown money into the campaign for their own personal interests and their personal choice of candidates. This is the citizens choice and the citizens Family Court Judge and not the hidden money of conflicted attorneys choice as to who they can control after the elections. Terri King Schoborg thank you for avoiding these types of conflicts which will help you and others give blind justice and fairness in your decisions as a Judge. It has been a honor to support you.
