Northern Kentucky University celebrated the new school year with a “Service on Saturday” event on August 25, hosted by the Office of Student Engagement. More than 80 students, faculty and staff devoted their Saturday morning to volunteering in the community.
Some students spent the morning cleaning with Matthew 25: Ministries, while others helped at local animal shelter, Cincinnati parks and the Campbell County Fairgrounds. Everyone who came out devoted at least three hours volunteering, totaling over 250 hours of service.
“When students give their time on the first Saturday of the school year, it really shows the level of dedication to serving the community,” said Tiffany Mayse, director of Student Engagement at NKU. “It’s a great way for our first-year students to start off their college experience.”
NKU’s Office of Student Engagement has hosted “Service on Saturday” events since 2002. Many of the service days are coordinated with holidays and campus events, like NKU’s Homecoming and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
