Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development gets KAGC’s top marketing, public affairs honors

The Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development’s Office of Marketing and Public Affairs won the Communications Office of the Year title in this year’s Kentucky Association of Government Communicators Awards of Excellence competition.

Government communicators from across the state competed for KAGC awards, which were presented today at the KAGC Member Appreciation and Awards Luncheon in Frankfort. The awards competition is open to those involved in government communications at the local, state and federal levels.

The Communications Office of the Year award is given each year to the agency that wins the most KAGC awards among 23 categories, including writing, design, photo, audio, video and social media.

“Obviously, we are very proud of our team and their passion and creativity. However the more important story here is the fact that government communicators in Kentucky have nationally recognized abilities and first-class talent,” said Joe Lilly, executive director of the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development’s Office of Marketing and Public Affairs.

“We as communicators have an important job – to inform, educate and instill public confidence in the work going on in the Commonwealth. Judges from throughout the country cited the incredible accomplishments of those whose life mission is to communicate the ‘good’ that is going on here. I am proud of their overall skill and excellence, and I am honored to be considered to be a member of this talented group of people.”

“We are honored to present the Office of Marketing and Public Affairs of the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development with the Communications Office of the Year Award for a successive year,” 2018 KAGC President Rebecca Hanchett said. “Our independent judges are always impressed by the quality of our competitors, with the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development’s Office of Marketing and Public Affairs consistently ranking at the top. Congratulations to Mr. Lilly and his staff for their continued commitment to excellence in government communications.”

The office tied with the Legislative Research Commission’s Public Information Office for the title of Communications Office of the Year in 2017.

KAGC offers professional development opportunities to government communicators while promoting high standards of professionalism, networking opportunities, and recognition for the essential role good communications play in public service. The group holds monthly meetings as well as spring and fall conferences.
