Gov. Matt Bevin has appointed Carrie McIntyre, of Shelbyville, as Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 53rd Judicial Circuit of Kentucky, representing Anderson, Shelby and Spencer counties.

The appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Laura Witt, and is effective Aug. 31.
McIntyre earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and sociology at Wake Forest University, before completing her juris doctorate from the University of Kentucky College of Law in May 2005.
She has served as Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney to former Commonwealth’s Attorney Witt since 2015, and previously served as an Assistant County Attorney for seven years. McIntyre has prosecuted a wide array of felony offenses, and, through her work as administrator of the Rocket Docket Program, has produced more than $1.1 million in savings for Shelby, Anderson and Spencer counties.
“I am honored to accept Governor Bevin’s appointment as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 53rd Judicial Circuit,” said McIntyre. “As a native and resident of the area, I am dedicated to the continued pursuit of justice in Anderson, Shelby and Spencer counties. Working with law enforcement to serve this jurisdiction, I remain committed to the Commonwealth and local communities.”
Witt
She shall serve until the position is filled in accordance with the results of the November 2018 midterm election, pursuant to the provisions of Section 152 of the Kentucky Constitution.
Witt appears to be the latest elected official to take advantage of a loophole in the Kentucky Retirement Systems.
Witt is the only candidate for the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 53rd Judicial Circuit in the November General Election.
As a retiree, with at least 27 years in the system, she is eligible to receive a full pension. When the election is certified and she is sworn in, she will also draw a salary as Commonweath’s Attorney.
