Thomas More College will celebrate the opening tomorrow of two new facilities that are hubs for student involvement and the community, the Center for Health Sciences and the Performing Arts Lab.
Both facilities will be unveiled to the public during a celebratory ribbon cutting at 3:30 p.m. at 196 Barnwood Dr., Edgewood.
A reception and tours of the Center for Health Sciences and the Performing Arts Laboratory immediately follow the ceremony.
Limited parking is available at 196 Barnwood Dr. and 2909 Foltz Dr. Guests are encouraged to park in Thomas More College’s main campus parking lots and walk to the Center for Health Sciences.
“Thomas More College is celebrating its move to Crestview Hills 50 years ago throughout 2018,” says Thomas More Acting President Kathleen Jagger. “The new Center for Health Sciences and the Performing Arts Lab signal the continued growth of the college; this advancement is a milestone worth celebrating.”
The Center for Health Sciences, supported by a $1 million gift from St. Elizabeth Healthcare, is the new home of the College’s traditional four-year nursing and accelerated RN to BSN programs, and the exercise science and athletic training programs. Launched in 2014, the athletic training program includes a bachelor’s degree component and the only master’s degree of its kind in the area.
St. Elizabeth Healthcare is a leading medical provider in the Greater Cincinnati region with its Edgewood unit less than a mile from Thomas More’s main campus. Thomas More has partnered with St. Elizabeth Healthcare as a clinical site for the nursing and athletic training programs and relies on their staff to provide athletic trainers for both the Saints athletic teams and sports camps.
This relationship built the foundation for the Center for Health Sciences with the intention of providing a continuous stream of healthcare talent for the St. Elizabeth Healthcare system.
“We are grateful St. Elizabeth Healthcare and CEO Garren Colvin, a 1986 Thomas More College alum, for partnering with us to establish the Center for Health Sciences – a facility that will be utilized by more than 300 students this year,” Jagger says.
The Performing Arts Laboratory, located on Foltz Drive, a short distance from the Center for Health Sciences, provides additional space to house the highly successful Marching Saints, Villa Players, dance team, choir, and other Thomas More performing arts programs.
“I am so excited for this building,” said Randy Webb, Thomas More director of Bands. “This facility, which will be utilized by more than 200 students this year, gives us a dedicated space – something we haven’t had prior to the Performing Arts Lab. We feel blessed!”
“These facilities will be hubs for student involvement and community, hands-on learning experiences, and academic excellence,” says Jagger. “Both the Center for Health Sciences and the Performing Arts Lab mark an effort by St. Elizabeth Healthcare, the community of Edgewood and our family of employees to provide our students with the best facilities and equipment necessary to ensure their future successes.”
