Student Anna Impelliteri joins Board of Education

New student representative of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council Anna Impelliteri has been sworn in as a member of the Boone County Board of Education.  Anna attends Conner High School. She was elected by her peers to serve as the student representative on the board.

Judge Rick Brueggemann swears in Anna Impelliteri.

Anna will serve the beginning of the school year in absentia.  She will spend part of her senior year in a public Spanish-speaking high school in Saltillo, Mexico, a small town about an hour from Monterey. She will return in November. Another student from the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council will fill in for her until she returns.  During September, October and November Anna will supply a pre-recorded video message from Anteneo Fuente High to be aired during the School Board meeting and the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council.

Anna who speaks fluent Spanish and is a member of the Hispanic Honor Society says she wanted to get a better understanding and feel for the Mexican culture by immersing herself living there and attending one of their public schools. Not long ago she traveled to Ecuador on a travel scholarship through the Hispanic Honor Society. She is not part of an exchange or internship program.  She simply temporarily withdrew her enrollment from Boone County Schools and enrolled in Saltillo’s public school system. Anna will be living with family friends there. She will re-enroll in the Boone County Schools on-line academy in November and then officially start back at Conner High School in January. Anna plans to attend college and get a degree in international studies and then a law degree. With this background Anna is considering many possibilities including working internationally, practicing immigration law or pursuing diplomacy work.
