Chloe Mills, Emily Soltes and Samantha Duwel all scored goals Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team opened the season with a 3-0 win over visiting Indiana State.

Mills began the scoring for NKU at the 15:24 mark, tapping in a shot from inside the box after a corner kick deflected off a defender. Eight minutes later, Soltes converted a penalty kick to give the Norse a 2-0 lead.

NKU extended the advantage to 3-0 at the 38:14 mark when Duwel found the back of the net with a shot from just outside the 18-yard box. Rachel Conaway and Payton Naylor both were credited with assists on Duwel’s goal.

NKU finished with a 10-2 advantage in shots, and the Norse held a 4-0 edge in corner kicks. Goalie Emily Lohmann collected the shutout. NKU is 1-0, while Indiana State is 0-1.

It marked the 307th career victory for NKU head coach Bob Sheehan, who is in his 22nd season on the Norse sideline.

The Norse hit the road Sunday for a contest against Murray State at 2 p.m.
