Kentucky League of Cities presents Rep. Adam Koenig with ‘Friend of Kentucky Cities’ award

The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) presented Rep.e Adam Koenig (R-Erlanger) with a 2018 “Friend of Kentucky Cities” award. KLC Deputy Executive Director J.D. Chaney and KLC Director of Governmental Affairs Bryanna Carroll recognized Koenig Tuesday night at a Florence City Council meeting.

Representative Koenig championed House Bill 2 in the 2018 Regular Session of the General Assembly. It provides the first major improvement in the state’s workers’ compensation law in more than 20 years, ensuring better care of injured workers while helping control costs.

“We are thankful for the continued support of Representative Koenig, who has been a longtime advocate for cities,” said KLC Deputy Executive Director J.D. Chaney. “His leadership in 2018 on workers’ compensation reform helped ensure local governments and other employers can continue to take care of their employees while also ensuring financial responsibility to taxpayers. He has been a consistent proponent of efforts to remove the police officer powers of untrained constables and of modernizing the road funding formula to ensure a more equitable distribution to cities, along with other issues that promote home rule. We look forward to working with him in 2019.”

Koenig spoke at the Tuesday city council meeting on the impact of House Bill 2.

“We had a lot of common sense changes that needed to be made,” he told the local leaders. He expressed his appreciation for the recognition and the support of cities across his district. “It’s important to me that our local governments in Northern Kentucky and across the state have the help they need to ensure our citizens have needed services and quality of life. I thank the Kentucky League of Cities for this award and look forward to continuing to promote local control in the coming years.”

KLC Executive Director/CEO Jonathan Steiner credited Koenig’s leadership in the House for the success of House Bill 2 and other legislation important to cities.

“We are grateful to Representative Koenig for his willingness to fight for cities and for reforms that improve our communities.”

Founded in 1927, the Kentucky League of Cities is a membership association of more than 370 cities across the commonwealth. KLC presents the “Friend of Kentucky Cities” award to legislators who perform outstanding work advocating for issues that impact cities across the state.
