One of the top volleyball players in Scott High School history, Jessica Tapp is now an all-conference performer for NAIA powerhouse Georgetown College.

A year ago, Tapp was selected to the All-Mid-South Conference second team after recording 211 kills as a sophomore and helping Georgetown post a 22-6 record. The Tigers finished second in the Mid-South Conference with an 11-3 mark.

Tapp finished her career at Scott as the Lady Eagles’ all-time leader in kills (1,348) and digs (850). The 5-foot-10 Tapp also hammered down a Scott single-season record 466 kills, and she led Scott to 10th Region championships in both 2014 and ’15.

A four-year starter at Scott, Tapp was also named 10th Region Player of the Year in 2014 and ’15, and she twice earned first team all-state honors. Now entering her junior year at Georgetown, Tapp is one of the Tigers’ top returning hitters.

A year ago, Tapp collected 15 kills against both Cumberland (Tenn.) and Shawnee State. She enters this season with 482 career kills as a collegiate player.

Tapp converted a career-best 18 kills against Madonna (Mich.) during a five-set triumph on Oct. 14, 2016, and she also attacked at a .455 clip in that Georgetown victory.

Georgetown is picked to finish second in the 2018 Mid-South Conference preseason poll, which was released Wednesday. The Tigers received 43 points and three first-place votes in the poll.

Defending NAIA national champion Lindsey Wilson is the favorite in the Mid-South Conference poll. The Blue Raiders completed a perfect season (35-0) in 2017 and defeated Dordt (Iowa) in the national title match. Lindsey Wilson received 46 points and five first-place votes in Mid-South Conference poll.

Campbellsville finished third in the balloting with 37 points followed by Cumberlands (Ky.) with 30 voting points. Cumberland (Tenn.) and Life (Ga.) are fifth and sixth in the preseason poll with 25 and 23 voting points, respectively.

Pikeville and Shawnee State round out the poll with 10 points each.

Thomas More will become a member of the Mid-South Conference next season. The Saints will compete at the NCAA Division III level this season and join the NAIA next July.
