Kenton County Fiscal Court recognized one of the 2018 Pioneer Award honorees, Mer Grayson, who received a proclamation for his outstanding community leadership and service.

The Kenton County Pioneer Award honors living residents of Kenton County who have a record of outstanding service to the community and exemplify the highest standards of personal integrity.
Grayson served as President of Covington Trust Bank and Regional President for Huntington National Bank and Central Bank. He served with distinction on numerous boards, including St. Elizabeth Health Care chair for seven years), St Elizabeth Health Care Foundation (founder and chair for 10 years), Northern Kentucky University (chair), Thomas More College (chair), Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce chair), Tri-County Economic Development, Northern Kentucky Educational Council, and the Kenton County Airport Board.
He served United Way in numerous leadership capacities as a long-time member of the Foundation Board, serving as Chair from 2011 through 2013. In his time on the Foundation Board, he directed a team of high-level volunteers responsible for providing leadership in developing and executing ongoing strategies for the planned giving and endowment program for United Way. Grayson’s service on the United Way Board of Directors spanned 22 years, including time as Chair. He also served many times on the Northern Kentucky Campaign Cabinet and chaired the Northern Kentucky Campaign on two occasions.
He resides in Ft. Mitchell with his wife of 50 years, Susan. They have two children and four grandchildren. He is a graduate of Covington Catholic High School and the University of Kentucky.
Schickel honored by craft beer brewers
The Kentucky Guild of Brewers (KGB) honored Sen. John Schickel with the 2018 Champion of Craft Beer Award in recognition of his leadership and commitment to Kentucky’s craft brewers across the Commonwealth.
The award symbolizes Schickel’s support and work for this growing industry, which includes 62 existing craft breweries and eight in planning stages in Kentucky.
“Today’s award represents our appreciation for Boone County’s own Senator John Schickel and his willingness to defend the needs of our industry and small businesses,” said Guild President Adam Watson.
“In a tough legislative year with difficult financial decisions, Chairman Schickel has been an advocate for issues that affect our industry and promote economic investment, tourism and job creation in the Commonwealth. His support has enabled our industry’s growth, competitiveness with other states and increased investment in Kentucky business expansions. He has provided vision to help us meet the changing market demands. Chairman Schickel has proven that he will fight for issues that help move Kentucky forward.”
Alexandria’s Hannah Anderson honored
