Weekend lane closures on Brent Spence Bridge scheduled; work will reinforce temporary repairs

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of a temporary closure of the right two lanes of the Brent Spence Bridge on I-71/I-75 north starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28 to inspect recent repairs made to a damaged expansion joint and add bolts. The closure is expected to be in place through Sunday evening, July 29.

The Fourth Street entrance ramp from Covington to NB I-71/I-75 will also be closed.

Motorists who use the KY 8 Covington entrance to I-71/I-75 NB may take the I-71/I-75 SB entrance ramp to the Pike Street exit and re-enter I-71/I-75 NB to avoid traffic delays.

Emergency maintenance was performed on the damaged joint earlier this week in order to return the bridge to operational use as quickly as possible. The additional work this weekend will reinforce the temporary repairs until a more permanent solution can be found. KYTC engineers will pursue a long-term solution after a more thorough inspection, and will announce the time and date of the inspection when confirmed. The structural integrity of the bridge has not been affected.

The duration of the closure is subject to change based on unforeseen delays. Visit goky.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, especially before the morning commute.  You can also get traffic information for District 6 counties at facebook.com/KYTCDistrict6 and twitter.com/KYTCDistrict6
