Police make arrest in Monday morning stabbing of homeless man in downtown Covington

Police have made an arrest in the Monday morning stabbing incident on West Fifth Street and Madison Avenue in downtown Covington.

David Othaniel Watson, 24, was taken into custody overnight and has been charged with First Degree Assault.

Police responded to Fifth and Madison at approximately 11:25 a.m. Monday for a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim, later identified as Michael Mincey, 31, with apparent stab wounds.

Mincey, who is identified as homeless, was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center and is in stable condition.

A description of a suspect was released following the incident, which led Covington Police to locate and apprehend Watson. He was charged with assault following a subsequent interview and transported to the Kenton County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.

Police have not yet identified a motive for the stabbing.
