Joseph (Joe) Iles, 19, dies of injuries from motorcycle accident on I-275 that occurred June 29; hit from behind


Joseph Brian Iles, 19, of Edgewood, passed away Tuesday while surrounded by his family at the UC Medical Center. Iles died due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

The accident occurred June 29 about 1:30 p.m. on I-275 near Fort Wright when he was rear-ended and thrown from his bike, according to Fort Wright police.

He was flown to UC Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for internal injuries.

He was wearing a helmet.

Three other vehicles were involved in the collision and eastbound I-275 was closed for more than an hour.

Iles was a graduate of Dixie Heights High School. He loved listening to music, riding BMX bikes, motorcycles and was a member of the Bikelyfe Motorcycle Club.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph Iles, Jr. and Marian Kathryn Iles. He is survived by his parents, Brian Keith Iles and Mary Jo Iles; sisters, Madelyn Kate Iles and Megan Joanne Iles; brothers, Erick Dakota Willett & Samuel Webber Iles; maternal grandmother, Mary Catherine Gillespie; maternal grandfather, Robert Blain Flege; maternal great-grandparents, John Webber Gillespie and Jo Anne Gillespie; maternal great-grandparents, Robert David and Beverly Flege and Sue Martin Flege; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

The Celebration of Life visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 18, at Floral Hills Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until the service at 4 p.m.

After the service at Floral Hills, the Celebration of Life Service will continue at Pride Park in Taylor Mill from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Ollie’s Skate Park in Florence for underprivileged riders.
