Cincinnati Synchrogators win third straight national title in U.S. Junior Olympic Synchronized Swimming

Capping off a week of stories of superior sportsmanship, athleticism and grace, the host team of the 2018 U.S. Junior Olympic Synchronized Swimming Championship — the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati Synchrogators – won their third consecutive title.

Working toward first place, the 16-19 age team coached by Julie Jasontek and head coach Ginny Jasontek, the Cincinnati Synchrogators topped the second-place Buffalo Swimkins and third-place Seattle Synchro.

“Our athletes swam with tremendous energy and phenomenal team work. We are so proud of them,” said Ginny Jasontek. “We have been training hard all season for this moment and they brought it all together to win gold in a very tough competition. It was truly awesome to compete in our hometown with our entire team, families and friends cheering us on.”

The Cincinnati Synchrogators 16-19 age team swimmers include Keely Connor, Anne Bouley, Mackenzie Finn, Erin Fanning, Paisley McCudden, Piper Edler, Carol Walsh, and Erin Gorney. The Cincinnati Synchrogators had finalists in every event in the entire competition from the youngest swimmers in the 12 and under, 13-15 and 16-19 age groups.

The eight-day event showcased the power, beauty, and grace of the nation’s top 75 teams, featured at Miami University’s Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio, from June 23-30. Athletes ages 8-19 vied for Junior Olympic National Titles in the solo, duet, combo and team events.

Head coach Ginny Jasontek is a legend in synchronized swimming both locally and internationally and has brought the area 16 national championship titles since forming the team in 1970.
